Post-doc fellowship, University Paris-Sorbonne

Research topic : « Urban cohesion, a European model? »

The 2007 « Leipzig charter on Sustainable European Cities » promotes an integrated approach taking into account the various dimensions of sustainable development and coordinating actions of multiple stakeholders. Economic, social and territorial cohesion are a key aspect of this strategy, also comforted by the integration of the urban dimension in the EU's cohesion policy 2007-2013.

The research aims to compare the implementation of this objective in a set of cities from chosen European Member States in order to see whether a « Europen model » is emerging in terms of perception of the values of cities, interpretation of the concept of sustainable development, territorial governance, methods and means of public intervention.

Deliverables: Research report, 1 paper in a ranked international journal per year.

Candidates Profile: PhD in Spatial Planning or in a field closely related to spatial planning.

Sound publication record.

A preliminary research experience with questions related to the research topic - urban cohesion, territorial policies of the European Union, European Spatial Planning - is considered a plus.

Languages: fluent English and one other European language. French language is not an obligation but is highly appreciated.

Conditions : The position starts on October 1st, 2011 for a duration of 1 year, renewable once. Salary 2000 €/month. The candidate is expected to live and work at Paris-Sorbonne durng his/her appointment.
